Standards & Sources

Editorial Policy

How we gather public component specifications, evaluate listing accuracy, and update our build guides.

Specification Research & Source Standards

PINOUT & PLATE operates on specification research rather than hands-on laboratory testing. To create reference guides and build recipes, we cross-reference multiple publicly available technical sources:

Manufacturer Sheets
Factory force graphs, PCB pin wiring documents, and structural material breakdowns published by component makers.
Marketplace Listings
Live vendor descriptions, store ratings, inventory variant menus, and public seller revisions on global retail hubs.
Physical Tolerances
Documented switch plate thickness (e.g., 1.5mm standard), PCB trace spacing, and socket clearances needed for reliable assembly.

Corrections & Listing Revisions

Marketplace sellers frequently modify parts bins, change hot-swap socket vendors, or switch from south-facing to north-facing LEDs without changing listing titles. When revisions occur or errors are detected, we follow these procedures:

1. Discrepancy Verification

We re-check the listing against factory documentation and buyer reviews to verify the updated hardware revision.

2. Guide Modification

Compatibility charts and part recommendations are adjusted to reflect the verified specification changes.

3. Status Flagging

Articles receive updated notes noting listing shifts or socket modifications so modders do not order mismatched parts.
