Evaluation Standards

Review & Comparison Policy

Criteria used to compare custom keyboard components and the realistic limits of our desk-based research.

Specification Notice & Evidence Boundaries

PINOUT & PLATE bases its comparisons and ratings on specification analysis, documented manufacturer tolerances, and catalog research. We do not conduct destructive physical testing, bespoke laboratory sound measurements, or automated switch cycle endurance trials.

Core Comparison Criteria

DimensionEvaluation Criteria
PCB & Socket FitHot-swap socket rating, 3-pin vs 5-pin plate support, and North vs South-facing LED orientation (noting Cherry keycap interference risks).
Acoustic StackMaterial stiffness across FR4, polycarbonate, aluminum, and brass; gasket vs tray mount style; dampening space constraints.
Switch MechanicsDocumented actuation force, bottom-out distance, stem material (POM, LY), and factory pre-lube declarations.
Full Cost StackTotal assembly cost factoring bare kit pricing, shipping fees, required stabilizers, and secondary cable or accessory costs.

No Guaranteed Outcomes

Because typing sound and feel vary heavily depending on case volume, desk surface, switch batch tolerances, and individual modding technique (such as tape mods or switch lubing), we never promise specific acoustic outcomes or guaranteed typing results.
